Eligibility

Who may apply.

The Foundation places pieces with U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charities whose mission includes the preservation, study, or public exhibition of cultural materials.

  • Museums
Art, history, regional, and university museums.
  • Libraries & Archives
Public libraries, research libraries, and special collections.
  • Universities & Schools
Accredited educational institutions with active humanities programs.
  • Historical Societies
State, county, and local historical societies and preservation organizations.

Museums, libraries, and collections are society's long-term memory. Without them, civilizations forget who they were — or worse, choose to erase it.

The Process

Four steps to placement.

01

Inquiry

Submit the application below identifying the piece(s) of interest and your institution's stewardship plan.

02

Review

The Foundation's board reviews each application against fit, public access, and educational impact criteria.

03

Agreement

If approved, a deed of gift or long-term loan agreement is executed between the Foundation and your institution.

04

Annual Report

Recipient institutions submit an annual stewardship report describing the piece's use and condition.

Due Diligence

Examine us before you apply.

Recipient institutions are encouraged to review the Foundation's IRS standing, governance structure, and collection-stewardship policies in detail before submitting an application. Everything is on the record.
